Access Audit Reports

Building accessibility is important for so many reasons.

Our access consultants, trained through the Access Institute (Diploma of Access Consulting) can assist with access reports for new developments, and reviews of existing residential, strata and commercial properties.

Aegis is currently providing appraisal and detailed design reviews on several key community center upgrade projects, group homes, and strata buildings, to ensure code compliance, to maximise utility of common areas, and to ensure mobility for residents.

What is an Access Report?

An accessibility audit is an evaluation of a building or space to determine whether it meets the requirements for accessibility for people with disabilities. Accessibility audits typically focus on the physical accessibility of a building, including the availability of ramps, handrails, elevators, and other features that allow people with disabilities to enter, move around, and use the building.

An accessibility upgrade is a modification to a building or space that improves its accessibility for people with disabilities. These upgrades may include the installation of ramps, handrails, elevators, or other features that make it easier for people with disabilities to access and use the building.

Accessibility audits and upgrades are important for ensuring that buildings are accessible to people with disabilities, which can include people with mobility impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and other types of disabilities. Accessibility audits and upgrades can also benefit people who do not have disabilities, such as elderly people or people with temporary injuries, by making buildings more user-friendly and easier to navigate.

There are a number of standards and guidelines that can be used to determine the accessibility of a building, including the Building Code of Australia and the Disability Discrimination Act in Australia. These standards and guidelines outline the minimum requirements for accessibility in buildings and provide guidance on how to make buildings more accessible.

These reports are often required at Development Application and / or Construction Certificate, and Occupancy Certificate stages during construction.

Our (Disability) Access Consultancy services include:

  • Concept Access Appraisal Reports for DA (Development Application),

  • Detail Design Reviews for CC (Construction Certificate) and

  • CDC (Complying Development)

Disability Discrimination Action Plans

The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) is a part of Commonwealth legislation which requires that people with disabilities be given equal opportunity to participate in and contribute to the full range of activities. Access for people with disabilities, including access to the goods, services and facilities is required to be provided by businesses. In implementing a DDA Action Plan, your business and the community as a whole will benefit significantly and it will enhance the image of your business.
